Yesterday i had the misfortune to Visit Porthcawl the scene of many a family holiday and day out at the fun fair.
The pleasant picture i my minds eye, came crashing down around my ears as reality sank in rather fast.
The place has the run down air of one of those western ghost towns all faded paint and rubbish.
If you have the urge to visit Porthcawl resist it for gods sake resist it.
Picture a disgusting rubbish strewn beach, stalls selling tat also covered in rubbish, chip rappers, drink containers and god knows what else.
The fun fair has the look and feel of something condemned to death and waiting for the demolition men, everything needs a coat of paint and some serious TLC.
So when you hear as we did, that tourism in Porthcawl is dropping ask your local councilor what the bloody hell they are doing to leave the place in such a state.

Basking in the summer sunshine on the ‘Golden Coast’ is Porthcawl boasting some of the cleanest beaches in South Wales. Rest Bay has been awarded the coveted European Blue Flag plus a Tidy Britain Seaside Award and is a surfer’s paradise. Not too far away are numerous golf clubs.
The reality is far removed from the fantasy I’m sorry to say
The bulk of the "On the beach complaints" concern - Persistent call backs after you think you have booked online to ask for more, huge extra cost surcharges. Extremely poor customer service .
I think you mean to resist, not resit!, if you are going to slate a town at least use a dictionary!
Yes Porthcawl is currently in a sorry state thanks to the Welsh Government using the oodles of council tax we locals pay to shore up other ‘poorer’ areas and fight over cost of land mainly set aside for expensive housing.
I’d like them to tidy Porthcawl up considerably, get rid of anything that encourages ‘chavs’ and ‘daytrippers’ and keep it all to ourselves!!a nice marina with expensive boats, designer shops and no whingers!
Posted by Emma Price | December 3, 2007, 12:04 pmreally is in poor state of affairs,after driving for an hour to get there with car full of kids we were confronted with what resembles bagdad dog poo every where swearing gangs of drunk feral hoodys and the fair????? looked more like derelict scaffholding i would not trust any ride there so off we went to the beach,,,,,,,chocablock with donky poop and washed up dead assylum seekers,,, so a walk on the pier only to be hassled by ladyboys selling pebbles,porthcawl is a very strange place all the locals have the same eyebrows,in future we will give porthcawl a wide berth and we advise you do to.
