Porthcawl “disgusting Welsh sea side resort”

PortcawlYesterday i had the misfortune to Visit Porthcawl the scene of many a family holiday and day out at the fun fair.

The pleasant picture i my minds eye, came crashing down around my ears as reality sank in rather fast.

The place has the run down air of one of those western ghost towns all faded paint and rubbish.

If you have the urge to visit Porthcawl resist it for gods sake resist it.

Picture a disgusting rubbish strewn beach, stalls selling tat also covered in rubbish, chip rappers, drink containers and god knows what else.

The fun fair has the look and feel of something condemned to death and waiting for the demolition men, everything needs a coat of paint and some serious TLC.

So when you hear as we did, that tourism in Porthcawl is dropping ask your local councilor what the bloody hell they are doing to leave the place in such a state.

This  rubbish “excuse the pun” from the Bridgend.gov web site

Basking in the summer sunshine on the ‘Golden Coast’ is Porthcawl boasting some of the cleanest beaches in South Wales. Rest Bay has been awarded the coveted European Blue Flag plus a Tidy Britain Seaside Award and is a surfer’s paradise. Not too far away are numerous golf clubs.

The reality is far removed from the fantasy I’m sorry to say

  1. Please get over yourself. It’s not really that bad. Has a thriving surf & skateboard scene. The people are not pretentious or judgemental. Although with your attitude it may have taken you quite a while to get served in the pub.
Ok, maybe it’s a little run down but name me a seaside resort town in the UK which could be described as classy?

  5. Well said.Totally agree with every word of your comments on Porthcawl…Only problem being. You commented in 2007.My comment is 5 yrs later, and guess what,Porthcawl hasnt changed at all in 5 yrs.Beach, still has donkeys and poo on it.Stalls, thats a laugh.Best laugh goes to the funfair.1 or 2 rides for little ones up to age of bout 8,the rest aimed at teens.Nothing for ages in between. It used to be,no room to walk, plenty of rides. In 2012,its plenty of room, not many rides. One toilet area. That has the cheek to charge 10p for a pee.No facilities if you need to change a baby.First aid room, not existant.By the look of things, they would rather spend money, building up the caravan park etc.Than waste time and money,on the fairground.
Not everyone wants to spend hours in the caravan site.yet the owners believe ppl do.The beach and fairground was the place to be yrs ago.We all looked forward to going to Porthcawl every yr.Sadly,no more.Feel sorry for the ppl of Porthcawl. It was the place to go,just like Barry Island. Not any more…..RIP PORTHCAWL. RESORT …..

  6. As a resident of porthcawl I’m embarrassed and ashamed of my town, it’s reminds me of a modern day Detroit where everything as been left to fall into disrepair . The biggest trailer park in Europe is nothing to be proud of and the fair is like something out of a scoobydoo episode!
I like to walk my dogs O’le & Millie at Aberafan beach in port Talbot where the beach is much cleaner than our own. We got nowt in porthcawl, Port Talbot even as a Hollywood park !

  9. really is in poor state of affairs, after driving for an hour to get there with car full of kids we were confronted with what resembles bagdad dog poo every where swearing gangs of drunk feral hoodys and the fair????? looked more like derelict scaffholding i would not trust any ride there so off we went to the beach,,,,,,,chocablock with donky poop and washed up dead assylum seekers,,, so a walk on the pier only to be hassled by ladyboys selling pebbles, porthcawl is a very strange place all the locals have the same eyebrows,in future we will give porthcawl a wide berth and we advise you do to.

  10. I think you mean to resist, not resit!, if you are going to slate a town at least use a dictionary!
Yes Porthcawl is currently in a sorry state thanks to the Welsh Government using the oodles of council tax we locals pay to shore up other ‘poorer’ areas and fight over cost of land mainly set aside for expensive housing.
I’d like them to tidy Porthcawl up considerably, get rid of anything that encourages ‘chavs’ and ‘daytrippers’ and keep it all to ourselves!!a nice marina with expensive boats, designer shops and no whingers!
